I'd say more likely to be motherboard or power than the hard drive failing.

might be worthwhile putting the drive in an external case and being able to access the data; assuming you're going to replace the laptop anyway

Generally with Beta software, there's an expectation that there might be problems. Probably the best solution would be to contact Sony (I expect signing up for the Beta there would be something saying how you should provide feedback), and explain the issue. they will likely have a few things for you...

That reads to me that you should be OK with the fan.

if you want, you may be able to ask the vendor to verify the presence of the thermistor to avoid potential issues. But I expect the error would just be a message as the PC goes through BIOS checks, and I doubt you would see it anyway.

If you got the part number from Dell, you might be able to do a quick google to see if you can find the specs too.


but it should be a really easy fix, either lubricating or replacing.

I imagine they charge $70 for a fan because they think they can get away with it, and some people will actually pay that :) the heatsink + fan is likely to be more generic and available and therefore cheaper. anyways, if it were me personally, it looks like a standard 80mm fan so it should be simple...
