Pictues from my walk

Post by Irabbit » April 19th, 2012, 12:48 pm

On my walk this morning I took some photos of the 5th Street pond and a weed I saw by the road on the way back from the pond.

If your weed smells of garlic, it may well be the garlic mustard.

Not sure how it smells. I didn't get that close with my nose. :) There is a lot of it growing right by the road.

If it is, in fact, a garlic mustard, it is very invasive and harmful in America especially to your native hardwood trees and other wild flowers.

It grows in England but remains in isolated clumps. In America it is not bothered by the natural plant and animal enemies we have here.

Google provides me with this: Garlic Mustard

It might be confused with the toothwort or the saxifrage but for the fact that the tips of the leaves of the toothwort are rounded and the saxifrage flower has 5 petals.

I did a little "Photoshopping" to replace the sky in one of the above pictures.
