ok took a plunge

was easier than i thought to add fonts didn't need extra download
just copied font to the linux box double clicked the icon for the font and besides a great diplay of the font was an install button
click and done :)

You didn't read the link I gave you...
Installing downloaded fonts, Lucid Lynx Ubuntu 10.4 Beta

Open the folder where you have downloaded the font file.

Double click on the font file to open it. This opens a font viewer window.

On the right there is a button, "Install Font". Click on it.

Wait until the button turns to greyed out "Installed".

oops
was actully confused about how to get the font on the linux section of the VM
so i had to use the admin share on the windows portion to get to the fonts and then copy them to a folder in linux VM

good luck with the endeavor.

I expect once you realize things don't happen the same way as in windows it'll be much easier

it's actually not bad installed samba made some shares etc. i thought it would be harder .....but pretty smooth stuff

Ubuntu is one of the few distro's that are nice, clean, and easy to setup and get going (even if you know little about Linux).
