Running Windows 7 Pro. I shut down my computer last night (which I usually do once a month) and went to restart this morning and it took forever. A Microsoft Window came up stating "the application is not responding. The program may respond again if you wait." I waiting and finally desktop loaded. I never saw this MS window thing before. I am wondering if this is a sign my pc is on its way out? :( Thanks for any help in this matter.

I would check the hard drive for errors. It may need to be replaced: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -windows-7.
Regardless, it is time to get something else. I am still running Win7 Pro and it is definitely past its prime, but I just don't like win 10 so I am holding out until I am forced to change.

Thanks for responding Irabbit. And thanks for link. I guess I would like to hold out too with a new system. I would presume my printer, modem, router, scanner, and software will have to be replaced too. $o we are not talking just replacing desktop but EVERYTHING. I better start buying a winning lottery ticket! *LOL* Have a nice day.

Irabbit...stopping by to let you know I followed the link you posted. It was a great help. Along with that I also did a defrag. I shut down pc last night and restarted pc this morning. It was a lot better but still slow with all the programs starting up. So I guess I better start looking around for a new pc. I am partial to Dell which has been good to me for 10 yrs. I might need some guidance in this journey. *LOL* again thanks for your input. Oh if not asking too much...if the time comes for you to buy a new computer may I ask which one would you be looking at? *G*

Start > Run > and type "msconfig"

Take screenshot of all of the items that are listed under the "Startup" tab

yep scrrenshot of what you have starting up probably ton of stuff that does not need to be there ….would also run superantispyware and clean out the billions of cookies that are probably phoning home
and win 10 is like win 7 so not much of a curve …. older printers may or may not work depending on what it is and if the manufacturer made new drivers for it etc
if you get win 10 … min RAM is 8 gig 16 is the way to go

Thanks Irabbit and WD for your input again. I did what you suggested taking screenshot of the startup menu. It looks like I have about 42 programs. YIKES! Only a few without a checkmark. And I do do the anti-spyware malware etc regularly. Also, I clean out those cookies. My problem is when I bring up the startup window the window box is small and I can't enlarge or expand it. Which ultimately I had to take four screen shots and paste into publisher. I would like to bring here for you to take a gander at to see what programs I do not need to start up. Would that be asking to much?
