Email header
Email header
Is there any way to access the header of an email without opening it?
Re: Email header
what email package some email allows you to go to settings to see them depends on what u r using
you could open it with your providers web site and maybe that will show u the header before u open it

Re: Email header
Thanks. I, I am sure like everyone else, get scam emails. Occasionally, I would like to set up a throw away email account and and send them an email advising them of my thoughts. I will not open these emails to get at the headers, but if I can find out where it came from I would provide them with some information on their activity and delete that email account.
Re: Email header
don't do that they have you as a good email address then
better to log into ISP web interface and block that address and report it as SPAM

Re: Email header
It won't be when I delete that throw away account.
Re: Email header
are u forwarding the mail to the throw away account then responding? if so how do you keep your orig email address out of it
seems like a waste of time these guys won't care anyway

Re: Email header
the other thing is you don't know if it's someones hacked email server or hacked email or open relay which means the email address can be made up and not useful to reply to
Re: Email header
If the email address is made up then it will not work. As I mentioned, I would get the email address from the email I received and then use the throw away account to create an email to the address that was shown in the email I received - no forwarding involved. That's the reason I need to get the email address from the mail I received since I would not be forwarding to my throwaway account, but creating a new email in the throwaway account to send to the email address in the email I received. So no connection to my good account.
Re: Email header
again knowing these guys don't care it seems like a futile thing to do
Re: Email header
I am sure it is, but it would feel good.
